There is still political uncertainty and turmoil in the UK about whether the UK will be leaving the EU at the end of March with a deal or no deal, or perhaps even a delayed departure. If there is a deal, EU law will continue to apply for a transitional period. There will be no substantial change in practice for UK lawyers. But if there is no deal, EU law would immediately cease at 11 PM on 29 March 2019. This will have significant consequences for UK family law solicitors and their clients where there are any EU connections.
iFLG partner, David Hodson, has co-written guidance for the family law solicitors profession of England and Wales on behalf of The Law Society along with Resolution, of which many family law solicitors are members. It covers areas of divorce, maintenance claims and children.
